“Do not wait; the time will never be ‘just right.’ Start where you stand and work with whatever tools you have at your command, and better tools will be found as you go along”
-Napoleon Hill
Let’s start with where you are now.
People come to counselling for all sorts of reasons, and at various different times in their lives.
It could be that you’re feeling depressed, stuck, anxious or overloaded, and need some time to work with a professional counsellor to explore why. Maybe you’ve gone through a life-changing event and need help to process what’s happened, and what it means for you. Perhaps you’re feeling low, sad or dissatisfied and don’t know why. Any of these are good places to start.
Often life just doesn’t turn out the way you wanted, or planned it to be and that can be really painful. Years can go by and you can suddenly look up and think, ‘ Wait a minute, this isn’t it how I wanted my life to be! How did I get here?’ Caught up in life events, difficulties and just plain busyness it’s easy to lose sight of yourself and your own identity and needs.
It can feel difficult to ‘find’ yourself again, to get back to feeling like you’re being true to yourself, and living an authentic life. Counselling can help you gain self-knowledge and understanding about past experiences, which in turn can make decisions about what you actually want much easier to reach.
As an experienced and objective counsellor, I will really listen and work with you to gain insight and understanding of your situation. Together we can look at ‘Who am I, and how would I actually like my life to be?’ We can explore options and possibilities for change, look at how to harness your resources, and help you find real direction and improvement in your life.
‘Goals not problems should drive action’
Gerard Egan
Beginnings can be hard, but the first step is to find the right counsellor for you. If you’re considering counselling and would like to find out how we could work together, I’d be happy to talk to you on the phone and answer any questions you may have, and then if you would like, we can arrange an introductory session. Initial sessions are charged at the normal session rate.
